Trepan Human Skull

It is staggering to stand before a trepanned human skull. We cut and drilled into living bone before having any real understanding of what we were doing, a desperate, blind gamble with survival. The true wonder lies in the smooth edges of mended bone, proof of a patient who lived long enough to heal.

I used dense graphite, fine linework, and soft smudges in the original drawing to depict the raw audacity required to gain knowledge.

Archival giclee print made from the original drawing. Printed on heavyweight matte archival paper. Signed. Unframed. Originals not sold through this website
